The labor laws in Mozambique reflect its past legacy as a colony and socialist state.
Since the multiparty elections in 1994 and the development of the new constitution, changes have been made to afford greater rights to workers.
The current system makes provisions for workers in guaranteeing their rights to fair wages, vacation and safe, hygienic work environments.
There is also provision for the hiring of non-national workers although more work needs to be done in facilitating the process.
For example, foreign workers may be contracted on the basis of a tightly regulated quota system whose purpose is to provide opportunities to Mozambicans.
