The Three Projects Reshaping Mozambique:
TotalEnergies Area 1 LNG — $20 billion
The largest foreign direct investment in African history to date. Force majeure was lifted following the security stabilisation of Cabo Delgado, and the project is expected to resume construction and move toward first LNG export in the 2026–2028 window. Two onshore LNG trains, each with a capacity of approximately 6.44 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), are planned.
ExxonMobil Rovuma LNG — $30 billion
Area 4 is operated by Eni, with ExxonMobil holding a significant stake in the Rovuma LNG component. Final Investment Decision (FID) for ExxonMobil’s onshore development is expected in 2026–2027, which would make this the largest single capital investment project in Africa’s history.
Eni Coral South FLNG — Operational
The Coral Sul floating LNG vessel is already in production, delivering LNG from the Coral field. Planning is underway for Coral Norte, the next phase of the Eni-operated development.
